KAPIT : Since Sunday, aid has been pouring in for the fire victims of Rumah Lorrie @ Gembar Lebu, a 39-door longhouse at Nanga Ibau Tengah located about an hour by longboat below Kapit town.

The fire on Saturday evening made 236 people (108 males while 128 females) homeless. Besides the Welfare Department, non-governmental organisations have also helped the fire victims.

They include the Lions Club, Marian Guild and the Malaysian Red Crescent Society.  Bukit Goram State Assemblyman, Jefferson Jamit Unyat rushed to the scene late Sunday afternoon to meet the victims and render his assistance.

For immediate relief, he brought over RM8,000 cash money and an allocation from the Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development, Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi amounting to RM19,500 or RM500 per door.
