KOTA SAMARAHAN: The Unit for Other Religions (Unifor) plans to build more chapels in medical facilities throughout Sarawak.

According to Unifor director Richard Lom, Unifor was still discussing with medical facilities, including hospitals.

“We will approach each place and explain our intention together with some discussions so that there is no conflict later.

“I cannot reveal further where the next location is but once confirmed, we will inform the public,” he said when met by the media after the launching of Sacred Heart Chapel inside Sarawak Heart Centre here, on Friday (March 4).

“Building a chapel or a small place of worship is a noble effort because Sarawak is known for its multi-racial and multi-religious society.

“This is in line with the inclusivity policy practised by the Sarawak government.”

Lom also said Unifor would assist other religions through grants or allocations provided by the state government.

“The allocation is not only to upgrade and repair the infrastructure of the existing houses of worship, but also to build new ones for the convenience of our community.”

He added that the initiative, which can only be found in Sarawak, was also the first to be implemented in the country.

“I hope that the community would support the initiative and at the same time make the house of worship as a platform to strengthen the relationship between the people in the state.”
