SIBU: Twenty-one trainees of Pelita Maslaut Sdn Bhd (PMSB) here on Tuesday received their certificate in Marine Engineering Rating 2018. The graduation ceremony was held at Sibu Islamic Complex with First Admiral Maritime, Dato’ Ismaili Bujang Pit, who is also the Director of Sarawak Maritime, as the guest-of-honour.
The Political Secretary to the Chief Minister, Abu Seman Jahwie, the Managing Director of Pelita Maslaut Group, Masni Amit and the General Manager of Pelita Maslaut Group, Nazim Masni, were among those present. In his speech, Ismaili praised Pelita Maslaut for setting up the maritime academy which has been operating for many years.
“Seafaring nowadays is a challenging career which is able to provide a lucrative income. “Those invloved in this career must be disciplined workers with good health as you are working on a ship,” he said, adding that they must also be alert at all times. Meanwhile, Ismaili disclosed that Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (APMM) is collaborating with the state government in implementing a programme to train more youths in deep sea fishing.
“This programme will be implemented in July this year. Presently, the job is mostly dominated by foreigners. “We must change the scenario and encourage youths, particularly those in the rural areas, to join this career,” he said, adding that APMM provides the training facility.
