MATU: A mini extreme sports park will be built here in an effort to encourage more youth to participate in extreme sports.
According to Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) in a news report today, Jemoreng assemblyman Datuk Dr Juanda Jaya said the construction of the park would cost about RM200,000 to RM300,000.
He made this announcement during the Matu Daro Extreme Sports Clinic 2022 at the Kampung Tian Matu Community Hall yesterday.
Dr Juanda said that he strongly supported the organisation of the extreme sport as it is a healthy activity.
“Therefore, it is hoped that extreme sports would be held on a larger scale in the future,” he said in his speech.
As a sign of his support, he also announced an allocation of RM10,000 to the Matu Daro Extreme Sports Committee (M.EX.D) for them to hold sports-related activities.
Meanwhile, a total of 150 participants comprising youth and children from Belawai, Sibu, Sarikei, Mukah, Matu and Daro participated in the inaugural programme organized by M.EX.D in collaboration with Bachelor Of Malaysia (BOM) and the Sports, Social and Community Activities Committee.
The programme included sharing of knowledge on extreme sports such as BMX cycling and rollerblade games.
Participants were also given the opportunities and guidance on using the sport equipment.
