KAPIT: State Assemblyman for Bukit Goram, Jefferson Jamit Unyat yesterday presented minor rural project (MRP) allocation amounting to RM440,000 to 37 local bodies comprising the Village Security and Development Committee (JKKK), Women Bureaus, Parents and Teachers Associations, local clubs and association, religious institutions and non-governmental organisations under his constituency.
The simple handing over ceremony was held at Meligai Hotel in Kapit.
Addressing the recipients at the function Jamit pointed out that the grant was from the state government for the people of Kapit. Apart from MRP grant, allocations under Rural Transformation Programmes (RTP) projects are also given through the allocation of the state assemblyman, he said.
Present at the function were several heads of departments, Pemanca Haji Wasli Nor, Pemanca Yong Thu Fook, Penghulu Haji AbangHamzah Bolhasan, Penghulu Sia ShuiPoh, Kapitan Yap Hui Le and Kapitan Kong Chak Hie .
Meanwhile Jamit also reiterated his call to all voters in Kapitparliamentary cionstituencyhere to be united together and give their undivided support to the government candidate in the coming up 14th General Election.
P215 Kapit parliamentary constituency covers three state assembly constituencies namely N62 Katibas, N63 Bukit Goram and N61Pelagus.
He said: “The incumbent BN candidate, Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi is our choice to defend the seat. We want him to win the election with overwhelming majority.
“To vote for Nanta is to vote for development. In the election every vote counts and I appeal to all voters to turn up in full force to vote for Nanta to ensure big majority win.
“This is important as it is meant to deliver clear message to top government leaderships that Kapit is a strong BN supporter. When government sees that we are the strong supporter, they will reciprocate to deliver more development projects to Kapit” stressed Jamit.
Jamit pointed out Kapit still is lacking behind when compared to developed urban centres like Kuching, Sibu, Bintulu or Miri.
“This doesn’t mean there is no development here. Since Nanta became MP 1999 and especially when he was appointed Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development (KKLW) in 2013, he has implemented many infrastructures and amenities projects to enhance the standard of living of the local people.
“However, we need more development programmes to catch up with urban centres. In order to ensure uninterrupted development project to be implemented here, the pre-requisite is for the people to be united to support the government and the continuity of leadership,” said Jamit.
He pointed out that each time during the election, there are individuals and opposition party members making election appearance to fish for votes just before the election and disappeared after the election.
“There are Individuals and opposition party coming to Kapit just before the election to beg for sympathy and fish for votes. But after the election, they will disappear. Their presence is not to help Kapit to prosper but causing split among the people.
“We don’t need their presence because here we have a good ‘Team’ under the leadership of Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Jemut Masing to lead us into new era of infrastructure development to prosper the economy through integrated land development. The setting up of URDA (Upper Rajang Development Agency) could help to plan the development agenda here,” said Jamit.
He disclosed that over the past five or six years ,many big projects were implemented in Kapit.
“Some have been completed while others are still on-going and in the process of construction. For example the RM800 million Jalan Kapit-Song-Kanowit is under various stages of constructions. JalanKapit-Song is soon to be completed. The RM1.4 billion, 74-kilometre Jalan Mujong to Putai up to the proposed Baleh Dam is now also in the various stages of constructions.

Whereas JalanJiwa Murni from Belaga Bazaar to Nanga Merit to provide alternative route between Kapit and Belaga instead of river transport is also in the process of construction” said Jamit.
Commenting on infrastructure development, he pointed up that no individual or opposition could spend on development projects like the government does in allocating millions and millions of ringgit for big or small projects all year round. That is why the vital need to support Nanta because only government has the resources to finance those projects.
“For us a small community in Kapit, we live happily together all these years. We must stay united together regardless of whether we are Chinese, Dayak, Malay, Orang Ulu and other races. We have every reason to vote for government because we are living in a remote area and our businesses also depend very much on government spending. We don’t have people spending individually.

That’s not enough purchasing power because how much an individual could spend and even when they spend, they spend in big cities. That’s why we must vote for the government to spend more here for development either infrastructure or road development, water supply and social-economic activities,” he said.
“We have experienced in Pelagus over the past five years when an individual won the election in the 2011 state election where the people suffered without much development as the government gave focus in areas where the government won. That’s why I say, let us be realistic and look at the real situation. The real situation, what I mean is, we must create purchasing power among our people,” he pointed up.
Jamit told that Nanta started many infrastructure and amenity development projects in Kapit.
He appealed to the people to continue giving him support by their votes.
