KAPIT: The passing of the late Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Jemut Masing yesterday (Oct 31) was a great loss not only to Sarawak but also  the people of Kapit and Baleh in general.

Political Secretary to the Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Lidam Assan, who pointed this out, added Kapit had experienced many changes recently as a result of Masing’s hard work.

“He was a leader who spoke out so that Kapit would no longer be isolated.

“In my opinion, Masing had done a lot for Baleh while he was in the State Cabinet and also as the chairman of the Hulu Rajang Development Agency (URDA). He planned to carry out a massive transformation in Kapit with Kapit MP Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi and other elected representatives in Kapit.

“Thank you, Tan Sri, for all your efforts over the years in not only developing Kapit but also in serving the people of Kapit.

“I offer my condolences to his family members and relatives. I hope they are all resilient in the face of this challenge,” he said.

Raymond Ako, a resident from the Kapit Division, was also saddened by Masing’s passing.

He said many development projects had been implemented by the late deputy chief minister not only in his constituency but also in other areas such as Song and Kanowit.

“A significant development was the connection of rural/inland roads to the main routes. Projects like this are very helpful to the people in the interior areas.

“Masing also encouraged local youth  to speak out and give feedback to the government. I offer my condolences to his family members and may he rest in peace,” said Raymond.
