KUCHING: The One Stop Committee to address Drug and Substance Issues (OSC MIDS) will expand seven One Stop Centre For Addiction (OSCA) and Community Development Intervention Centre (CDIC) services in high-risk areas of drug abuse throughout Sarawak.
Its chairman Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said the action plan was to increase access to addiction treatment and drug and substance abuse rehabilitation in Sarawak.
“OSCA will be expanded to seven selected and suitable health clinics in high-risk districts in Lawas, Betong, Subis, Dalat, Bau, Bintulu and Sibu.
“For CDIC, it functions as a community concern house in Kuching, Bau, Miri, Sibu, Limbang, Dalat and Subis,” said Fatimah, who is also Sarawak Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister.
She said this at a press conference while presenting the OSC MIDS monthly report for September on Friday (Oct 15).
She explained the CDIC served as a place for communities stuck with illicit goods to meet with district MIDS OSC members, NGOs, community leaders, bureaus and volunteers to undergo integrated treatment and rehabilitation intervention activities.
Fatimah added that it would place emphasis on preventive action through evidence-based awareness, advocacy and screening programs at workplace educational institutions in the community and family.
