KUCHING: Schools in Kuching District recorded a high percentage in attendance on the first day of reopening of classes on Monday (Oct 4).
Federal Deputy Education Minister II Datuk Mohamad Alamin said this showed how eager the students were to return to school.
At the same time, he noted that schools were also ready and well prepared as safety measures had been taken as per standard operating procedure (SOP).
“I visited the St Thomas Secondary School with Sarawak Education director Dr Norisah Suhaili and other officers. I am very happy that out of the 111 Form 6 students there, 86.2 per cent turned up.
“As for the students at SK Pendidikan Khas (B) Kuching, 61 students or 69 per cent out of 89 were present.
“I am very pleased that both schools recorded good percentage in attendance. I hope this is similar in other schools in the state.”
He told the media this at SK Pendidikan Khas (B) Kuching on Monday.
As for the students who were absent, Mohamad said that among the reasons were; they were close contacts to Covid-19 cases; undergoing or waiting to complete their quarantine order.
“I would like to assure parents that various measures are in place to safeguard the students’ safety when they are in school.
“The students’ safety is the ministry and schools’ top priority. Thus, parents should not worry or hesitate.”
