KUCHING: A farmer, who pleaded not guilty to two charges of negligently firing and causing death as well as possessing a rifle without a licence, was released on a RM500 bail with one surety on Monday (July 12).
Magistrate Zaiton Anuar ordered Sindor Rangas to be released on bail pending re-mention of the case on August 12.
For the first charge, the 64-year-old farmer was charged with negligently firing and causing the death of his neighbour, Wilco William, 36, between noon and 6pm in a forest area near Kampung Sadir on August 28 last year.
For the offence, the accused was charged under Section 304A of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to 10 years and a fine.
For the second offence, he was charged with possession of a rifle (serial number MF18) with seven bullets without a licence on the same day around 6pm.
He was charged under Section 8 (a) of the Firearms Act 1960 which carries a jail term of not more than seven years and a fine not exceeding RM10,000 or both.
