SIBU: As many as 3,005 people turned up at the mobile vaccination centre (PPV) at the Ching Ang Methodist Church here since it started operations last Friday.
Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bawang Assan branch chairman Senator Robert Lau said on the last day of the vaccination programme last Sunday (June 27), 1,140 people were vaccinated which exceeded the target set (1,100).
“We have exceeded our target of 3,000 doses by five doses as the medical team brought extra the five to cover any breakage,” he said in a Facebook post yesterday (June 28).
He said the medical team from the Ministry of Health (MOH) were on top of their jobs as all 3,000 bottles were used and none was damaged.
“Started the morning very early and was immediately confronted with three major challenges such as the rain, people turning up earlier than the appointment at 8am, and there was a shortage of staff as some did not turn up,” he said.
He said however, the issues were resolved within two hours thanks to ten volunteers who showed up after a phone call to man the counters.
“More wanted to go for the vaccine, however, we could not cater to all the requests. Many of them, especially those working in the factories, sawmills and shipyards nearby, wanted to be vaccinated.
“There is also a large group of workers from outside Sibu who sought our help to be vaccinated. I could only help a handful as our list was already full,” he said.
Lau said that he will try to arrange another vaccination programme soon and also hopes that the National Covid-19 Vaccination Programme through MySejahtera would cover more people by then.
