KUCHING: The State Health Department has identified five new clusters in Kuching, Subis, Meradong and Julau.
The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in a statement today (Tuesday), said that the Jalan Daya cluster in Kuching was a workplace cluster involving a seafood processing factory in the Pending industrial area.
“This cluster stems from social movements and close contacts among the factory workers. Those who tested positive were the occupants of the factory workers’ house at Jalan Daya.
“Of the 153 individuals who were screened, 27 including the index case were positive, 50 were negative while 76 are still waiting for the laboratory results,” it added.
The SDMC said the Muara Tebas cluster in Kuching was a community cluster involving several families in different houses in the area.
“The cases were positive due to social movements and close contacts among the residents in the village.
“Of the 17 people who were screened, 14 including the index case were positive while three were negative.
“All the positive cases were referred to the Sarawak General Hospital and admitted to the Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) Kuching for isolation and further treatment,” the committee said.
The committee said the Dulang cluster in Subis was a workplace cluster detected at an oil palm plantation under the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) in Suai, Subis.
“This cluster emerged due to social interactions and close contacts among the plantation workers.
“Of the 289 people who were tested, 39 including the index case were positive, 249 were negative while one is still waiting for the laboratory result.
“All the positive cases were admitted to the Miri and Bintulu Hospital and PKRC under Miri and Bintulu districts for isolation and further treatment,” it added.
Meanwhile, the Nanga Strass cluster in Meradong is a community cluster involving a longhouse that was put under the EMCO. The cluster emerged because of social interactions and close contacts among the residents.
“Of the 72 residents who were screened, 29 including the index case were positive, 40 were negative while three are awaiting their laboratory results.
“All the positive cases were admitted to the Sarikei Hospital and PKRC under it for isolation and further treatment,” said the SDMC.
The committee added the fifth cluster, the Nanga Sejugam cluster, was a community cluster detected in a longhouse in the area due to social interactions and close contacts among the residents.
“Of the 148 residents who were screened, 64 including the index case were positive while 84 were negative.
“The positive cases were admitted to the Sarikei Hospital and PKRC under it for isolation and further treatment,” it added.
The SDMC today also declared the end of two clusters, namely the Long Jegan cluster in Beluru and te Jalan Sultan Tengah cluster in Kuching after no new cases related to the clusters were reported for the past 28 days.
Of the 86 active clusters in the state, 13 of them today recorded 172 new positive Covid-19 cases.
