KUALA LUMPUR: Finnish telecommunication service provider Nokia is offering its 5G technology that has been established globally to be deployed in Malaysia’s network rollout by year-end.
Head of Southeast Asia Daniel Jaeger said with more than 200 5G commercial contracts and 60 5G networks that are live and running globally, Nokia intends to bring the same solutions that have been proven effective to Malaysia.
“When building a strong 5G network, you need to have a lot of other elements and Nokia has a strong portfolio in having everything that an operator needs in order to build reliable 5G networks.
“The other part that we are also proud of is the security aspects of our 5G network technology that have a high interest and high trust from our customers,” he told Bernama in a virtual interview, today.
Last month, Nokia confirmed its participation in Digital Nasional Bhd’s (DNB) recent 5G infrastructure tender.
Nokia intends to enhance the country’s connectivity and to drive economic development, with advanced technology such as e-health, cloud robotics, machine remote control, as well as video surveillance and analytics.
In terms of security to the network, Jaeger said Nokia has been working with different stakeholders in every country to cater for specific solutions required by regulators in each country.
“In deploying a 5G network, the interest in security is much bigger than in previous technologies, so we design everything from the beginning with the security aspects in mind in each and every solution or network that we build.
“We have worked together with the regulators and as a result of that, our solutions in 5G specifically have been selected by operators in all continents, including those that have very strict or tough security requirements,” he added.
Besides offering solutions for the network in its portfolio, Jaeger said Nokia is also providing fibre connectivity in a recently announced partnership with local service provider Allo to deploy a gigabit fibre network in Melaka, Johor, Negeri Sembilan, and the East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia.
“We are also doing a very important job in building a lot of submarine cables to connect continents and islands with each other in order to improve the connectivity.
“We have everything crucial in our portfolio that telecom operators need to build the networks and we have worked closely with them using different technologies that we offered,” Jaeger said. – Bernama
