MIRI: Miri City Council (MCC) is giving rebates on assessment rates and reducing the rents of market stalls and lock up shops.
In announcing this during the council’s 5th ordinary zoom meeting on Monday (May 31), Mayor Adam Yii said, the move was made following the recent Bantuan Khas Sarawakku Sayang (BKSS) 6.0 financial package announced by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg to help the vulnerable groups weather the 14-day movement control order (MCO).
“The discounts are a 30 percent rebate for assessment rates for the 2nd half of 2021 if annual amount payable is less than RM400 and a 25 percent rebate if the annual amount exceeds RM400, and a 50 percent reduction in the rents of the council’s market stalls and lock up shops from July to September 2021,” said Yii.
The state government has declared the movement control order (MCO) for the whole of Sarawak starting from May 29 to June 11, 2021.
Yii said that standard operating procedures (SOPs) had been drawn up for the various sectors to prevent further spread of Covid-19.
He reminded the public to watch out for any additional and new SOPs to be announced by Sarawak Disaster Management Committee from time to time.
Yii added that MCC would extend the closure indefinitely of all sections of the Miri Central Market including the wet market and cooked food and drink stall centre pending advice from the health authority.
“The market is supposed to reopen today. However, there are few more positive cases of Covid-19 and one death reported in this market,” he said.
