PAKAN: A group of 23 community leaders comprising Tuai Rumah and a Penghulu in the Meluan constituency received their service appointment certificates last Friday (May 21).
They received the certificates from Meluan assemblyman Rolland Duat Jubin during a presentation ceremony held at the district office here.
The recipients comprised 18 Tuai Rumah whose services were extended for another two years and five newly appointed including a Penghulu.
Rolland reminded the community leaders to continue to play their part in disseminating information on government policies, especially on new initiatives and socio-economic development programmes aimed at improving the lives of the rural communities.
“Tuai Rumah and community leaders are grassroots leaders who are required to give their commitment in serving their villagers as expected by the government,” he said.
He added the grassroots leaders are the eyes and ears of the government, as well as the bridge linking the two together.
Present during the ceremony were a political secretary to chief minister Brian Fung and acting Pakan District Officer Yalin Asan.
