KUCHING: The Dayak Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) is thinking of forming a task force to improve Dayak businesses, said Datuk Leonard Martin Uning.
The DCCI president added that informing the community on what transpired during a dialogue session with the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (Medac) on Sunday (Apr 4) was very important.
Leonard pointed out that the exposure to Medac and its minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar would get things moving fast.
He revealed that DDCI would establish three cooperatives after the dialogue session.
There will be one cooperative for the Dayak women, one for the young Dayaks represented by the Sarawak Dayak Graduate Association (SDGA) as well as a general cooperative for the general business community.
“We are now tracking DCCI members to find out what they are doing and their businesses. Besides that, DCCI will come up with an authentic certification to confirm that the members who have registered and are recognised as Dayak business entities.
“There are many Bumiputera entities out there who do not belong to Bumiputera so we are concerned about that.
“We are also trying to set up a research and development (R&D) unit to track down the participation of the Dayak community in every aspect of business and economic development in the country, especially in Sarawak,” he said.
Leonard, who was elected as DCCI president in September last year, added, “We have got visions and we have talked about roadmaps, but to implement them will be a big challenge for us. We are giving our services to the people who need us.
“We cannot afford to remain as we are, so I am bringing in the people from SDGA because I think in the future, the chamber will belong to the young people,” he said.
