SIBU: The Urban Transformation Centre (UTC) located on the top floor of the Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) multi-storey car park at Sibu Central Market was flooded with people upon reopening of operations today.
Based on observation, it was found that the public began to gather and line up at Sibu Central Market before 7am.
Sibu UTC was previously closed for two months due to the movement control order (MCO) in the district on Jan 16.
SMC chairman Clarence Ting and Michael Tiang, a political secretary to the Chief Minister, visited the premises to ensure the public complied with conditional MCO standard operating procedures (SOPs).
“A lot of people were present and they have come for certain services. We are expecting this situation to continue until the end of this month.
“This is because many matters which are pending such as road tax renewal, making a new identity card, registering a death certificate, making a passport and other related matters,” Ting explained.
He disclosed that SMC had also increased its manpower, especially enforcement officers to monitor the situation.
He also shared that services at the National Registration Department (JPN) were based on appointment only while other agencies were on a ‘walk-in’ basis.
“Sibu UTC is open from 8am to 5pm every day. The operation hours used to be until night, but its operating hours are limited due to CMCO and instructions from the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC).
“I hope the public will always abide by the SOPs and listen to the instructions from the enforcement officers on duty.
“You can be fined RM10,000 if you disobey because the CMCO SOP compliance monitoring team may also conduct patrols in these areas.”
