MIRI: Three cars were damaged after the roof structure of a building fell on the cars during a storm at Pelita Commercial Centre here last Sunday evening.

In the 7pm incident, the roof structure from the top floor of the building fell on three cars parked at a parking space behind a restaurant.

A witness who wished to be known only as Wong said that during the incident he and his friends were enjoying dinner at an eatery and were shocked to hear a loud bang coming from the parking lot. He said the incident caused the atmosphere in the restaurant to turn chaotic.

“After checking, we found that a roof structure has fallen on three vehicles and several dining tables and chairs.

“Luckily, no one was sitting at the dining tables placed in the parking lot because of the heavy rain before the roof structure fell,” he said when met at the scene.

Wong also said the rear windscreen of one of the three cars was broken while the other two were only slightly damaged. Following the incident, a team of firefighters from the Miri Fire and Rescue Department rushed to the scene to help remove and clear the fallen roof structure.
