Najib opens 13th WIEF in Kuching today

KUCHING: Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak arrived here yesterday to attend 13th edition of the World Islamic Economic Forum (13th WIEF) at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching. Najib is scheduled to deliver his keynote address and simultaneously open the forum today. Other world leaders expected to attend the three-day forum include Moroccan Prime Minister, Saad Eddine El Othmani, President of the Union of the Comoros, Azali Assoumani and Vice-President of Ghana, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

Chief Minister, Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Johari Tun Openg was present to welcome the Prime Minister at the Kuching International Airport here at 7.10pm yesterday.

Also present at the airport were Deputy Chief Minister, Datuk Douglas Uggah Embas, Second Finance Minister, Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh, Local Government and Housing Minister, Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian and State Secretary, Tan Sri Mohd Morshidi Abdul Ghani. About 2,000 local and foreign delegates are expected to attend the event themed “Disruptive Change: Impact and Challenges”.

Najib, who i s a l s o WIEF Foundation patron, will witness the signing of Memorandums of Understanding and business exchanges between local and foreign companies on the first day of the forum. Najib will also lead the Malaysian delegates during the 12th Annual Consultation Malaysia and Indonesia tomorrow.

The meeting will be attended by Indonesian President, Joko Widodo, who will make his maiden visit to the state on the same day.Duplication of border claims, protection of Indonesian workers and tourism promotion collaborations are among the topics expected to be deliberated between the delegates during the meeting.
