SIBU: The Sibu Health Department carried out a Covid-19 screening campaign for residents of two longhouses at Bukit Aup here today.
The campaign was in response to Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bawang Assan chairman Senator Robert Lau’s request for the screening after Rh Catherine and Rh Juna (Francis) registered Covid-19 cases originating from the Pasai Cluster.
A total of 132 people turned up for screening, while some had theirs at the Sibu Indoor Stadium earlier.
“It is important to test all the residents staying at the longhouses when the persons who were tested positive were also in the longhouses at the time.
“Bukit Aup, situated within Sibu town, is most vulnerable to the virus,” commented Lau.
He there were more than 50 longhouses in Sibu district that have at least one positive case reported each as of laast Friday.
“The Pasai Cluster has spread throughout Sarawak and we are starting to see a fourth generation infection. This is less than a month,” he said.
Lau advised longhouse residents not to move around for the time being and appealed to them to stay put in their bilik (rooms).
“This is the only practical solution to break the chain of the virus, especially among the longhouses,” he said.
