KUCHING: Amidst Covid-19 fourth wave in the state, Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg is also playing his part to prevent the spread of the virus.
State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman cum Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said on the advice of the committee, the chief minister had decided to cancel all his scheduled programmes throughout the state for the week.
“The chief minister wants to send a message to the people — avoid mass gatherings.
“Through mass gatherings, we have seen the emergence of the Pasai Cluster which accounted for many Covid-19 cases as well as the sudden spike in the number of cases in Miri,” he explained during the SDMC press conference on Monday (Jan 11).
Uggah advised the people to avoid going out and to stay at home unless necessary throughout the conditional movement control order period from January 13 to 26.
“I think this is the safest way,” he added.
Uggah also assured that SDMC and the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government would do their best to enhance all quarantine and medical facilities.
“This is so that Sarawakians will have access to better facilities.
“One day, I will announce how much the state has spent on these facilities. I think we are the only state that continues to bear the cost for quarantine facilities throughout this pandemic.
“It shows that our leader, the chief minister, is concerned about the rakyat and cares for them and this is reflected in his support for our programme,” he added.
