SIBU: A 43-year-old woman is believed to have committed suicide by jumping from the sixth floor of a hotel at Jalan Pahlawan here last Thursday.

District police chief, ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said the victim identified as Kong Mei Yiing, was believed to be suffering from depression.

Prior to the incident which happened around 9.30pm, the victim had informed her husband that she was going to meet a friend.

“Later at about 9.10pm, the victim contacted her husband and asked to pick her up behind a hotel at the said location.

“Shortly after, the husband arrived and was shocked to find his wife’s body in the parking lot behind the hotel,” he said.

Paramedics from Sibu Hospital confirmed that the victim had already died and there were no signs of foul play at the scene.

Stanley revealed that the hotel’s closed circuit television (CCTV) footage showed the incident happened on the sixth floor of the building.

The body was taken to the hospital for post-mortem and the case classified as sudden death (SDR).
