PUSA: The decision by the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) to disallow those returning to Sarawak from undergoing home quarantine is fair, says Razaili Gapor.

Home quarantine invited anxiety and concern among the people at large as it was difficult to control, added the Beting Maro assemblyman.

“Individuals who have been instructed to undergo home quarantine are not allowed to step out of the house but other occupants of the house are free to go out as usual.

“This situation can be risky in the event that the occupants of the house somehow got infected by the person under quarantine, and once they go out of the house, they would unknowingly spread the virus to the general public,” he explained.

As such the announcement by SDMC chairman and Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas on Monday was most appropriate given the rising number of cases that are symptomatic, he said over the phone.

“The decision is for the common good and should be supported by all.”

In a separate development, Razaili urged the people in Beting Maro to continually exercise care and to fully observe standard operating procedure rules such as wearing face mask in public places, maintaining physical distancing in crowded places and keeping good personal hygiene.

On the Covid-19 case in Pusa District recorded on Jan 5, he appealed to those who had attended the gathering last Dec 26 to undergo test.
