KUCHING: Despite the Covid-19 pandemic this year, during this festive season Sarawakians have much to be grateful for, particularly the caring policies and numerous subsidies provided by the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) state government.

Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Public Complaints Bureau (PCB) chief Wilfred Yap said Sarawakians must continue to enhance the spirit of patriotism of OneSarawak and love for Sarawak and recommit themselves to further develop and strengthen the unity and understanding between the races with trust and respect for one another.

“Let us not forget our multicultural and multi-religious fabric of our Sarawak society as it is through harmony and understanding among the various races that binds us all together as one people under OneSarawak,” he said in a statement today in conjunction with the festive season.

He noted that Sarawak, which is multiracial, multi-religious, and multicultural, had a range of traditional, festivals, and rituals all year round.

“These festivals and rituals go beyond the superficial as they are part of our rich Sarawakian culture and heritage. Sarawakians still observe the festivals for the value they add to family togetherness and social bonding,” he said.

He said these still flourished today as many among the older generation had persisted in preserving and sustaining them as part of tradition and heritage.

“Traditions, customs, and festivals are the foremost of our OneSarawak identity as a race, as a people, and as a nation,” said Yap, who is also SUPP Kota Sentosa Branch chairman.

At the same time, he said that the people as loyal Sarawakians must continue to be courageous and stand up for everything they know is right and everything that is true and honest.

“Sarawakians must never forget the significance of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) and must continue to be united behind the GPS state government in our pursuit of all the legitimate rights and interests of Sarawak and for the progressive and systematic improvement in the social and economic status of Sarawak,” he said.

In conjunction with Christmas Day on Dec 25, he wished all Sarawakian Christians a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
