SIBU: The Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) state government does not discriminate opposition-controlled constituencies.

The Bawang Assan constituency was a good example whereby it received RM3mln worth of rural transformation projects (RTP) this year alone, said Romeo Christopher Tegong, a political secretary to the Chief Minister.

Bawang Assan is currently held by Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) president Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh.

“The projects are meant for the benefit of the local folk and to resolve their predicaments that the relevant parties had failed to attend to previously,” added Romeo.

These included the construction of a reinforced wall, upgrading of roads and sports facilities, to name a few, he said.

Romeo, who is Parti Pesaka Bumiputra Bersatu (PBB) Bawang Assan chairman, said some of the projects had been completed with several others still under construction while the rest still in the pipeline.

Earlier on Tuesday (Nov 17), he led a Bawang Assan PBB delegation and officials from the relevant agencies and departments for a site inspection of the RTP projects that had yet to be implemented.

One of the projects was the construction of a wall, costing RM335,000, to fight against erosion at Rumah Mary Geruna, Sungai Bidut, which would commence construction sometime next month.

The Sibu Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) is responsible for the project, which is expected to be completed by March next year.

“As a voter and a resident of Bawang Assan, I on behalf of the constituents would like to record our appreciation to Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg and the GPS state government for approving the RM3mil RTP projects for the constituency.

“I will make sure the implementation of the projects is smooth for the comfort of the people at large.”

During the site visit, Romeo also symbolically handed over the project site to the Sibu DID as a sign of project commencement.
