THE Sarawak government is committed to continuing the survey of native customary rights (NCR) land under the new survey initiative introduced in 2010.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said for that purpose, the government would also continue to provide the necessary allocation in addition to the funds received from the federal government.

“As of Oct 31, an area approximately 953,000 hectares (2.35 million acres) involved perimeter survey and an area of approximately 753,000 hectares (1.86 million acres) has been gazetted under Section 6 of the State Land Code (SLC),” he said in his winding-up speech for the Ministry of Urban Development and Natural Resources during the DUN sitting on Friday (Nov 13).

He said for this year, emphasis was also on the survey of individual lots for the areas that had been gazetted under Section 6 based on the application and readiness of the landowners.

“Therefore, as of Oct 31, 37,039 individual lots have been successfully surveyed, involving an area of 46,113 hectares (113,945 acres) which has been and will be issued with land title letters under Section 18 of the SLC.”

He said to expedite the NCR land survey, the state government had approved the recruitment of 467 officers in various categories to increase the existing capacity in the Land and Survey Department, and this involved an additional expenditure of RM30mil per year.

“To ensure the survey work is carried out smoothly, land claimants must also be present during the survey, clearly mark their land boundaries and avoid disputes in making claims of their land.”
