KUCHING: The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) is advising the public against travelling out of Sarawak this month.
Its chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas explained that the advisory was given based on the information of cases announced 14 days ago.
He noted that of 40 cases reported, seven cases (17.5 percent) were Import A, which is from overseas.
“While from other states (Import B), there are 22 cases (55 percent). Of the 22 cases, 16 were from Sabah and the local cases were 11 cases (27.5 percent), of which six positive cases are from contacts rather than import cases,” he said at the daily Covid-19 update press conference.
He noted that this data showed that majority of the cases in Sarawak were imported.
Hence, he advised the public to avoid travelling in October unless necessary, so that the number of imported cases could be reduced.
“SDMC has to impose the 14-day quarantine to those coming back from Malaya.
“This is done to break the Covid-19 transmission chain and we hope the public cooperate and play their role,” he said.
On the standard operating procedure (SOP) compliance throughout the state, Uggah said the police had issued 16 compounds to errant individuals.
“The police will continue to carry out operations to enforce the SOP, including the use of face masks and social distancing in public places.
“Miri recorded the most compounds issued with seven, four each in Kuching and Kota Samarahan, and one compound issued in Betong.
“The police also arrested two local men in Miri for breaking the quarantine order by going out from their quarantine rooms (hotel).”
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Local Government issued 112 verbal, written, and seizure warnings in areas under the supervision of various local councils.
Patrol teams had also inspected 1,520 premises throughout Sarawak.
These included 266 restaurants, supermarkets (156), hawker stalls (134), banks (89), public markets (74), places of worship (66), leisure places (39), government offices (26), factories (21), construction sites (11), and others (638).
Under Ops Benteng, SDMC said a total of 1,669 vehicles were inspected at six roadblocks in five districts – two in Lundu and one each in Bau, Serian, Sri Aman, and Lubok Antu.
