MIRI: Police here have conducted 11 Ops Dadu raids on premises suspected to be involved in gambling activities within one week.

Miri deputy police chief Supt Mohd Sabri Zainol said that the district’s Crime Investigation Division (CID) conducted the raids from Sept 28 to Oct 4.

“Eight raids were made towards premises suspected to be carrying out online gambling activities around the city.

“As a result, the police team arrested nine individuals — two men and seven women, as well as seizing eight phones and RM1,180 cash,” he said in a statement.

Meanwhile, he shared that the police team also raided two premises found to be involved in the sale of illegal lottery numbers.

It led to the arrest of two men and the seizure of two phones as well as RM469 cash.

Sabri further stated that the team also conducted an inspection on premises suspected to be involved in cock-fighting, but no one was arrested.

In connection to illegal gambling activities, the police along with Sarawak Energy Berhad (Sesco) also cut power supply to nine premises believed to be operating as gambling centres.

Cutting off power supply to these premises is under the provision of Section 21A (1) of the Common Gaming House Act 1953.
