KUCHING: The construction of Masjid Darul Naim Kampung Lintang here is expected to be completed by the end of this year, said Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.

He said the project is now running smoothly despite a slight delay due to the movement control order (MCO).

“This is because some materials imported from abroad have not arrived yet because the countries involved have closed their borders since the transmission of Covid-19 began last March.

“However, we will monitor the construction work and hope it will be completed as soon as possible,” he said during a visit to the Masjid Darul Naim project site in Kampung Lintang here on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Fadillah, who is also the Petra Jaya MP, said he had approved an additional allocation of RM250,000 through his minor rural project (MRP) grant to the mosque committee.

He said this was following a request from the committee for additional funds to improve the interior decoration of the mosque.

“It is hoped that this fund will be used to the fullest for the interior decoration of the mosque,” he said.

Fadillah said the additional funds had increased the construction cost of the mosque to RM8.25 million.

Construction started as early as 2018 and once completed, the mosque will be able to accommodate up to 1,500 devotees at a time and will be equipped with modern information technology.
