BETONG: The opposition is full of ‘hot air’, said Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.

According to Uggah, the oppositions are envious of commendable work done by the state government led by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.

“When the chief minister announces a project, they would say it’s just hot air. But who is full of hot air? They are full of hot air,” he said during his speech at Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Betong Zone special convention here on Saturday (Sept 26).

Uggah recalled that the Democratic Action Party (DAP) spoke about getting 20 percent oil and gas royalty to the state, to which he asked: “Ni? Bisi kah? Nadai. (Where? Anything? Nothing).

He said DAP also promised to lower petrol prices in the country should they form the government of the day.

“Who lied? ..,” he emphasised.

On the contrary, he said, Abang Johari has his own strategy to provide funds for planned development projects.

Uggah said in his own ways, Abang Johari had inspired some methods which accentuated his wisdom and knowledge in acquiring more funds for Sarawak, assuring that all promises made by the chief minister have been kept.

“These include the introduction of the state sales tax (SST) in accordance with the provisions of the Sarawak State Sales Tax Ordinance, 1998 which also includes five percent SST for petroleum products.

“The same goes for the establishment of the Development Bank of Sarawak (DBOS) and the taking over of Bakun Hydroelectric Dam,” he said.

Uggah then commended the chief minister for his achievement, assuring that it was a master stroke to save Sarawak from a lack of funds.

“Thus, with all these sources of funds, Sarawak is able to have all of its planned projects implemented,” he said.
