MIRI: People of Ulu Suai in Niah would soon heave a sigh of relief as their road, Jalan Suai-Ulu Niah, will be constructed.
Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg visited the RM67.99-million project site this morning (Aug 25).
The project, which started in October last year, is scheduled for completion in November next year.
Over 21 percent of the improvement work which covers about 18km has been completed compared to just over 20 percent earlier on.
The scope of this project includes the improvement of the drainage system with the construction and replacement of sewers, roadside and slope drainage systems, as well as the installation of accessories along the way.
The residents said that once the road would make it easier for people the areas to travel to nearby towns.
The improvement work involved the upgrading of the existing road to the standard Public Works Department (JKR) R3 modified standard road using the Cold-In-Situ Pavement Recycling (CIPR) with chipseal (surface dressing) technology.

With the completion of the road, it would cut our daily commute time by less than 20 minutes in order to reach Niah town, unlike before when we had to endure more than half an hour’s drive.

The present gravel road has a lot of potholes, and hopefully, once the road is tarred, it would ease our travel problems which we endured all these years. It would also shorten our travelling time to the nearest town such as Niah and Miri.
