SARIKEI: A Muslim cemetery at Jalan Haji Karim here now has a new wall, thanks to a RM300,000 allocation from Repok assemblyman Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii.

The allocation was channelled through Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) 2018 while the wall was completed last year.

Chairman of the Al-Muttaqin Mosque Management Committee, Abang Ibrahim Abang Kipni thanked Huang for his allocation.

“This cemetery is old and narrow,” he said.

Huang said the project aimed to stop encroachment of the cemetery.

“I am happy that this project benefits the entire Muslim community in the Repok area,” he said.

Earlier, Huang attended a “gotong royong” project held at the cemetery in conjunction with the 30th Jubilee celebration of the Sarikei Islamic Religious Department.

He thanked Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Abang Openg for implementing many development projects for the people of Sarikei.

He said the implementation of high-impact development projects such as the Sungai Pasi Bridge and the new route to Tanjung Manis brought great benefits to the people.
