KUCHING: Non-governmental-organisations (NGOs) and the private sector are called to collaborate with the relevant government agencies to ensure the success of community-related programmes including those promoting entrepreneurship among the youth.
The call was made by Assistant Minister of Youth and Sports, Snowdan Lawan who added that the State government has always encouraged and supported the organising of community-related events.
“We can also collaborate in doing so many things that can benefit our youths. It is also important for us to come and work together to ensure success of such programmes and activities,” he said at the closing ceremony of the Face of Flawless Borneo Programme held at Stadium Perpaduan Negeri Sarawak, Petra Jaya near here, recently which was attended by more than 300 participants.
According to him, the youth must be encouraged to participate in programmes and activities that can stimulate their interest in constructive activities and capacity building including entrepreneurship.
“The basis of getting the youths’ involvement in such activities is to get them motivated and to actively participate for their own benefit.
“The youth must be encouraged to invest their time in activities that can develop entrepreneurial skills and this will also promote their ability to look for ways to earn a living,” Snowdan said.
He commended the event organisers for staging the event which received encouraging response from Sarawak and Kalimantan youths, particularly those involved in beauty works, personal grooming, modelling, fashion designing and photography.
On the programme, Snowdan hoped that the organisers would hold similar event in the near future and to include participants from other parts of the state to promote the growth of local beauty and personal grooming industry.
Also present were the Head of West Kalimantan Tourism, Youth and Sports Department, SH Kartius and former Miss World Malaysia 2014, Dewi Liana Seriestha who also gave away prizes to the winners.
