KUCHING: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) continues to focus on ensuring that the supply of essential goods and consumer interests are always secured during the movement control order (MCO) period.
“Since the MCO was implemented on March 18, a total of 184 enforcement officers have been mobilised to conduct inspections and monitoring throughout the state to ensure adequate supply of essential goods and that traders do not deliberately increase prices,” it said in a statement yesterday.
A total of 42,887 business premises in both urban and rural areas were inspected between January 1 and July 29, this year during which over RM3,768,550 worth of goods were seized and compounds totalling RM203,900 were issued in 629 cases statewide.
Monitoring was done in accordance with the Control Of Supply Act 1961 (AKB 1961) and the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011 (AKHAP 2011).
The ministry added that inspection and monitoring at business premises would be enhanced throughout the RMCO period to ensure adequate supply of basic food items are sold at reasonable prices, especially ahead of the Hari Raya Aidiladha festive season.
