KUCHING: To avoid confusion among the public, Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii has urged the government to clarify certain matters on the mandatory face mask policy in public or congested areas, which will come into effect on August 1.

He said that this included clearly defining where this policy would be enforced, such as what would be considered a congested public place.

“The better the communication, the better the compliance. If not, people may use the excuse of ‘not congested place’ to not wear their mask,” he said in a Facebook post yesterday.

Dr Yii also called for the ceiling price of face masks to be reduced to make them more affordable to all.

He suggested the government look into providing free face masks to high risk areas such as schools, and even distributing certified reusable masks to the low-income (B40) community.

“Educate more on proper usage and also proper disposal of such masks. Educate on proper usage of reusable masks as well,” he said.

Dr Yii also urged the government to make sure that stocks were sufficient, especially for medical frontliners and the public.

He called it to strategise for proper implementation and enforcement.

“(There should be) an educational enforcement period to inform the public of such policy and also help them adapt to the new habit,” he said.
