KUCHING: Grassroots members of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) Sarawak aligned with Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad launched a ‘blackout Bersatu’ move on Saturday.

Its chairman Didi Udin said the move was a show of support for the former prime minister, whose party membership status was being disputed.

“The blackout Bersatu move symbolises the stance of the state’s grassroots members who are in favour of Tun M to remain as the national Bersatu chairman,” he said at the launch of the event at a local hotel here.

On June 16, several Bersatu supporters of Dr Mahathir launched the ‘blackout’ campaign by changing the party logo’s red background to black and uploaded it on social media sites.

The act was to protest against the party membership nullification of five Bersatu MPs namely Dr Mahathir (Langkawi), his son Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir (Jerlun), Amiruddin Hamzah (Kubang Pasu), Dr Maszlee Malik (Simpang Renggam) and Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman (Muar).
