RM6 million allocated for mosque renovation

KUCHING: The decision on the completion of the entire project to rebuild the Darul Furqan Mosque at Lorong 7, in Taman Mahilah will be known no later by March next year, said Petra Jaya parliamentary members, Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.

“The mosque has been allocated with RM6 million, through the State and federal government as previously announced by the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, where RM3 million will be from the State and another RM3 million from the federal,” said Fadillah.

He said this after attending to the briefing session from the Darul Furqan mosque construction project, in Taman Malihah on August 17.
He added currently the mosque can only accommodate from 500 to 600 people only.

Fadillah noted that the mosque committee members hoped that the mosque is build to accommodate more than 1800 people.

He said due to the demand, the project has to apply for additional land in the back of the mosque in order to expand the mosque from half hectare to 1 hectare.

“The application for detention wall should also be submitted to the State government as the land is close to a river area,” he said, adding that the expansion of the land would need a bigger allocation so the mosque committee will be holding a fund raising program known as ‘Wakaf collection’ and will also collect from the public.

On another matter, commenting on the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) candidate, Dr Wan for the coming parliamentary election, Fadillah said it is the party’s right to field in their candidates.

“That is their right because we are not working only for the election, we in Barisan Nasional (BN), especially Parti Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), are working around the clock for the people and also our country,” he said.

Also present were Tupong assemblyman Fazzrudin Abdul Rahaman.
