KUCHING: Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah remains optimistic that the state’s tourism industry would be able to restore its economic impact once the conditional movement control order (CMCO) is lifted.
“I am positive that we will be able to restore the industry. We have to restart reviving and pushing our culture and art industry to the same level before the lockdown was imposed,” he said at a press conference at Bangunan Baitul Makmur in Petrajaya yesterday.
He said his ministry was discussing strategies to revamp both the tourism and sports sectors.
“I can’t wait to see both sectors start to progress once the CMCO is lifted. We are now still having dialogues with all agencies under my ministry on how to go forward until next year,” he said.
Abdul Karim, who is also Youth and Sports Minister, said his ministry was in the process of deliberating on its sports programmes.
“Taking the CMCO and Covid-19 exit move into consideration, only relevant programmes will be carried. For example, Sarawak Youth Stay At Home ESport Challenge programme which was organised by my ministry during the movement control order (MCO) period has received great response,” he said.
Earlier, Abdul Karim donated a total of RM50,000 in grants to 10 welfare associations for the less fortunate who will celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
