142 defiers arrested

KUCHING: A total of 142 persons were arrested for defying the movement control order (MCO) in the state between 8am Wednesday and 8am yesterday.

Serian tops the list of arrests with 28, followed by Padawan (21), Sibu (18), Bintulu (17), Kuching (16) and Kota Samarahan (11).

Eight MCO flouters were arrested in Miri, seven in Sarikei, five in Limbang, four in Song while Sri Aman, Betong and Meradong recorded two each and one in Lundu.

Deputy Police Commissioner Datuk Dev Kumar said as of April 15, the police have stopped issuing compounds to those who violated the MCO. They would instead be arrested and held in custody.

“Anyone found to be in clear violation of the MCO will be arrested,” he warned.

Dev revealed the total number of arrests to date stood at 775. Of these, 733 who were detained between March 18 and April 14 were issued compounds.
