MIRI: Two were remanded by the Magistrate Court here on Saturday after they were caught with two parcels containing ganja (cannabis) weighing 520gm and 220gm respectively.
Magistrate Eleanor Mako Timothy meted out the remand order.
Both accused are to be produced again to the Magistrate Court on March 21.
They are charged under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which carries a death sentence upon conviction.
Initially, the public prosecutors Inspector Mohd Alamin and Rosli Wahab have applied for eight days of remand.
The duo was detained by the Customs Department (Miri branch) on Friday.
A stash of dry cannabis leaves which was concealed inside the two parcels were seized from the duo after they went to a courier service to collect the parcels at Eastwood Valley Industrial Estate at Jalan Miri By Pass around 4.15pm on Friday.
Both accused, a 26-year-old woman and a 38-year-old man were produced and represented by their counsels at Miri Magistrate Court on Saturday, while Inspector Mohd Alamin and Rosli Wahab prosecuted.
According to the court fact sheet, the woman had claimed that she was being instructed by someone from Keningau, Sabah to collect the parcels from the courier service.
She was accompanied by the male suspect.
All transactions were done by the female accused.
