BAU: A new Customs, Immigration, Quarantine and Security (CIQS) facility at the Serikin border checkpoint will boost socio-economic activities here, said Tasik Biru assemblyman Datuk Henry Harry Jinep.

He explained that the new CIQS would allow visitors from the neighbouring country to visit using their International Passports.

“Once the CIQS is built, visitors will be able to travel freely in the state using their International Passports.

“The current CIQS only provides daily passes which restrict their travels to only as far as Batu Kitang from here.

“This will surely encourage more socio-economic activities in Serikin and Bau as a whole,” he said when met by reporters at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Serabak here yesterday.

Henry added the increased flow of visitors would also elevate the tourism and medical sectors in the state.

“Indonesian visitors also frequently utilise medical facilities in the state. And by using international passports, they will be able to visit hospitals in Kuching as well as in Bau,” he added.
