SERIAN: Drivers of public buses and other public transportation vehicles are advised to comply with traffic rules throughout the holiday period as officers of the state Road Transport Department (JPJ) are looking out for any shenanigan on their part.
State JPJ director Mohd Syafiq Anas Abdullah said the department has implemented undercover operations as part of its statewide Chinese New Year Enforcement Operations.
“Different investigative methods will be used throughout the operation, which includes checking of public transportation terminals and going undercover.
“Our (JPJ) officers will be disguised as passengers in buses and other public transportation travelling on the Pan Borneo highway between Kuching and Limbang.
Mohd Syafiq said this when officiating at the launch of the department’s Chinese New Year Enforcement Operations at Serian Enforcement Station here, yesterday.
The operation will end in two weeks’ time.
“We (JPJ) will deploy officers in Kuching, Sibu and Miri. Summonses will be issued once the vehicles reached their destinations,” he added.
On the prohibition period for lorries, Mohd Syafiq said they will not be allowed on the roads two days prior to the (Chinese New Year) celebration and two days after the celebration.
