SIBU: Semop assemblyman Abdullah Saidol has lodged a police report over a posting in a Facebook page which he claimed had defamed him.
Sibu district police chief, ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said Saidol, who is also Assistant Minister in Chief Minister’s Department (Corporate Affairs and Sarawak Public Communications Unit) lodged the report at 5.27pm on Friday after he saw the Facebook posting.
“He read a posting by the owner of the Facebook account ‘Manan Eppik Pulau’ and has filed a police report to enable the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to investigate,” Stanley said.
The posting in Sarawak Malay read, “Pemunya tanah di tapak pembinaan Jambatan Btg Paloh dan Btg Lassa dapat pampasan tapi jalan Sedi-Sebako, YB nak penduduk tak payah ambik pampasan…pelik tak pelik” (Landowners in Batang Paloh and Batang Lassa bridge projects had received compensation but (how about those in) Jalan Sedi-Sebako. The YB does not want the people to take compensation. Strange)
It further stated that the land was acquired on April 30, 2018 and the road project was expected to complete on October 29, 2019.
“Is the road project completed? Don’t be angry as I am asking only,” Manan asked.
Stanley said although the posting did not name any specific people’s representative, Saidol, in his police report claimed that the posting was referring to him as he is the assemblyman of the area where the bridge and road projects are located.
“The complainant said that the statement was not true and has no basis. He also claimed that he does not know the owner of the Facebook account but believes that it is a false account,” said Stanley.
