SIBU: A teenager succumbed to serious injuries after a motorcycle he was riding collided with a car in Bintangor yesterday.

The deceased has been identified as Akmal Muhama Raperi,18, of Kpg Darul Falah, Sungai Gemuan. His 14-year old brother, Mohd Saiful who was riding pillion, sustained a broken left thigh and was admitted to hospital.

Bintangor police chief, Sekam Anoi said, the deceased together with his brother were travelling from Bintangor Bazaar to their home when the accident occurred at 10am along Jalan Kelupu.

“It is believed that the deceased was trying to overtake a car which was travelling in the same direction,” he said.

Akmal said the car which was driven by a 48-year old man had turned right to Taman Bintang when it collided with the motorcycle.

“The deceased could not avoid the car and rammed into its front door. He died on the spot with serious injury to his neck,” he added.

The driver of the car was unhurt while the deceased’s brother was rushed by an ambulance to Bintangor Health Clinic due to a broken left thigh.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
