KUCHING: The Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) delivered 93 Rural Transformation Projects (RTPs) in 2024, reaffirming its commitment to enhancing infrastructure and improving the quality of life for residents.

In a press statement issued today, MPP chairman Tan Kai highlighted the council’s efforts in implementing the Sarawak government’s RTP initiative. Under this programme, state assemblymen are allocated RM5 million annually to fund community-benefiting projects within their constituencies.

Tan Kai stated that while MPP’s core services — such as garbage collection, street lighting maintenance, sewerage treatment, and recreational park management — are funded through assessment rates, infrastructure projects heavily rely on government grants, particularly RTP funding.

To ensure efficient delivery, MPP collaborated with the Kuching Resident’s Office and technical agencies, including the Public Works Department (JKR), Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID), Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB), and Kuching Water Board (KWB).

“The breakdown of RTP projects implemented in 2024 are Pantai Damai implemented seven projects worth RM900,000, while Tupong carried out three projects valued at RM450,000. Satok completed one project costing RM150,000.

“Batu Kawah carried out 12 projects amounting to RM2.97 million, and Stakan undertook three projects valued at RM700,000. Meanwhile, Mambong implemented 13 projects costing RM1.52 million, Petra Jaya completed two projects worth RM250,000, and Puncak Borneo carried out three projects with a total cost of RM600,000,” he said.

Tan credited the successful implementation of these projects to the active participation of local assemblymen and reaffirmed MPP’s support in delivering future RTP initiatives.
