JAKARTA: A total of 91 Indonesians, including migrant workers and students, have safely returned to Indonesia after being evacuated from Syria, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

The evacuees, originating from various regions, such as Aceh, North Sumatra, Riau, Jambi, Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, East Java, and West Nusa Tenggara, arrived here on three flights on Friday and Saturday.

According to the ministry, they were first transported overland from Damascus to Beirut under the escort of Indonesian embassy diplomats before boarding their flights back to Indonesia.

“This latest evacuation, the fourth of its kind, brings the total number of Indonesians repatriated since the government transition in Syria to 156,” the ministry said in a statement.

Efforts are ongoing to locate and document Indonesian nationals who may still be in Syria but have not yet registered with authorities.

The ministry urged Indonesians remaining in Syria to monitor security developments, avoid involvement in unnecessary political activities, and stay in regular contact with the embassy in Damascus.
