KUCHING: Nine women experienced a moment of claustrophobic panic when they became trapped in an elevator at a local hotel here, last night (May 25).

Firemen from the Padungan fire station were dispatched to the scene after receiving a distress call at 10.34pm.

Upon arrival, the firemen discovered that the victims were trapped on the fourth floor of the building.

The firemen had to use a ladder and open the elevator door using a spreader tool.

All occupants were safely rescued from the elevator shortly after.

The rescue operation ended at around 11pm.
