KUCHING: The Road Transport Department (RTD) issued 76 non-compliance notices to motorists for various traffic offences recently.
The department said on Monday (June 12), that its Kuching Operations Unit had conducted an operation code-named ‘Ops Kenderaan Perdagangan’ along the roads of Kota Samarahan-Padawan-Kuching.
In the operation targeting commercial vehicles, the team had inspected a total of 220 vehicles and issued 60 non-compliance notices to road users.
“Among the offences detected throughout the operation include them having expired road tax, modifying vehicles and transporting dangerous goods.
“For the record, transporting dangerous goods is a serious offence and they can be brought to court for such an act.
“The driver or operator of a commercial vehicle can be charged in accordance with the Road Transport Act 1987 and the Rules under it,” the department said.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday (June 13), the RTD Sri Aman Operations Unit mounted a similar operation along the roads of Limau-Sungai Tenggang-Abok.
A total of 16 non-compliance notices were issued to road users and among the offences include them having expired road tax, modifying vehicles and failing to cover the goods on commercial vehicles.
The department assured that it will continue to carry out enforcement to ensure motorists comply with existing rules and laws.
