SIBU: The Forest Department here had successfully disrupted illegal logging activities in Selangau District.

According to its statement today, its enforcement team found seven piles of logs comprising 717 logs of various species and sizes at Batu 36 area, Jalan No, Tamin, Selangau.

“It is believed that they were illegally logged as there were no JH Hammer, Copyright Hammer and LPI Tag marks on both ends of the logs.

“The value of the logs has not been ascertained until further investigation has been completed,” it said.

The enforcement team had detained the logs for further investigation and lodged a report to that effectat the Selangau Police Station.

Forestry Director Datuk Hamden Mohammad, when contacted, confirmed the arrest. He said a related investigation paper will be opened in the near future so that the parties involved do not get away with their crimes.

“The Forestry Department’s enforcement team will continue to patrol the district even during public holidays or weekends,” he said while congratulating the enforcement team.
