KUCHING: More than 70 dilapidated houses had been repaired in the Batu Kitang Constituency under the Sarawak Poor Home Improvement Programme (PPRMS) since 2017.
Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang, who revealed this, said, “Every year, we manage to repair about 20 to 30 dilapidated houses in my constituency.
“By the end of this year, we should have more than 80 (repaired houses).”
He was speaking to reporters after handing over a house that had been repaired at Jalan Chong Foh Hin here today.
Lo said the previously dilapidated house belonged to 50- year-old Liew Boon Jing who lived with his wife, Thian Chu Khiun, 50, three children and his 81 year-old mother.
He added that the repair work began on Nov 30 and was completed by Dec 7.
“For this house, we repaired the ceiling, leaking roof and toilet. We also partitioned the rooms,” said Lo.
He thanked the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) state government under the leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg for providing the necessary funds to assist the needy throughout the state.
“It is only with these kinds of projects and allocations that we are able to help the people in our constituencies,” added Lo.
He explained that the maximum allocation for repair work was RM15,000 per house. The programme was for the underprivileged B40 group.
“We can only help with basic things such as repairing the roofs and providing septic tanks,” he said.
