KUCHING: Police arrested a total of 671 individuals for various crimes in a series of special integrated crime prevention operations from January to June this year.
Kuching police chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah said 445 of them have been charged in court for various offences.
At the same time, 148 individuals who were found positive for drugs, had prior criminal records for various offences.
“On the district’s crime index for this year, we recorded a total of 402 cases from January to June — an increase of one case compared to the same period last year.
“For drug offences, the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division (NCID) arrested 1,239 individuals in the first six months of this year and 864 of them had prior criminal records.
“From the figure, a total of 841 cases have been taken to court for prosecution,” he said.
As for commercial crimes this year, Ahsmon pointed out that the Commercial Crime Investigation Division (CCID) opened 336 investigation papers with 112 of them solved.
The division also arrested 85 suspects in connection with commercial crimes
In the same period, the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division charged 34 individuals in court for various traffic offences.
Ahsmon assured that the police will continue to carry out more crime prevention operations, especially in the city centre, to ensure public safety.
